Introduction of the Problem

Today's business professionals, especially in F& A domain, are expected to be multi-faceted business strategists. Business needs are changing constantly and as a result corporate strategies are changing constantly. The middle and higher level of F&A managers are fast becoming the back-bone for data and analysis of financial and operating strategy in companies. They are expected to sort through data, taking unstructured information and come up with recommendations for solving business problems. They have to be able to articulate their thoughts and then communicate at all levels with all types of people. Consequently, the organisations need to develop professional skill sets in its employees in the F & A domain, so that they can sustain the growth efficiently and effectively. This requires employees to be able to:

  • adopt a multi-disciplinary approach and demonstrate their ability to use judgement as well as highlight their technical skills when producing reports, making presentations and contributing at meetings
  • succinctly summarise information and extract the correct data to make decisions
  • consider genuine problems within organisation and come up with real-life solutions that manage both finance and risk
  • develop good spoken and written communication skills, international business awareness, professional judgement and the application of technical accounting knowledge
  • use knowledge from different areas in the same situation and confidently advise on what could take the business forward

Objectives of the Training Intervention

GTG has designed an exclusive highly interactive business game simulation BOOST!, to help the F&A leaders to develop a more holistic perspective of what a leader has to deliver to a client AND what challenges the client is going through. BOOST! will also encourage building a deeper relationship with team mates and the client, by looking at how the team can deliver on value added services. BOOST! concentrates on integrating technical and behavioural skills in F&A leaders. The methodology behind the training is aimed at facilitating the development of capabilities to understand complex case scenarios, based on real-life business situations. Candidates are required to work logically through the data available to put that case (client) information into a broader context. The workshop will teach the participants to:

  • Take unstructured information and develop the ability to turn it into structured information that can be used to make business more successful. Also to use knowledge from different areas in the same situation and confidently advise on what could take the business forward
  • Develop critical thinking skills and therefore good spoken and written communication skills, international business awareness, professional judgement and the application of business knowledge
  • Clearly understand what support team members will need in order for them to deliver to the clients.

Deliverables of the Training

The training involves ensuring high standards of communication by employees at various transaction levels. The training will ensure employees develop the following professional skills:

  • Time management: The business game helps participants focus on the importance of time-management as this is a key element in the game. The business game works in parallel with their daily goals and will make participants see that there should be a set amount of time for each activity when they are working.
  • Commercial Awareness : This course is helpful to develop the ability to view situations from a commercial or business perspective and also encompass understanding of the economics of the business and understanding the business benefits and commercial realities from both the organisation's and the customer's perspectives.
  • Articulation and Communication skills: This will help the business leaders to articulate and communicate regarding financial implications, consequences of business decisions, formulate and explain the business strategies.
  • Leadership: This course will address the most critical management skill i.e. leadership. Key skills of taking Ownership, Organised, Delegate, Lead by Example, know your people, etc. are demonstrated.
  • Presentation skills: The workshop will also ensure that the leaders know how to plan and write the presentation and deliver it confidently
